Emily in Paris: We dined at “Gabriel’s restaurant” in Paris | How it is in reality {photos}
The third season of Emily in Paris returned to Netflix in December 2022, a few days before 2023.
From the moment the series began in 2020, the depicted locations had become tourist attractions. Among them, Gabriel’s restaurant where Emily has her first kiss with the chef with whom she is in love, and where many other scenes of the series take place.
How is in the reality Gabriel’s restaurant?
My friend Violetta and I visited Paris in January 2023 and dined at the “Deux Comperes” (two friends) which is actually named Terra Nerra, it serves Italian cuisine and is located at the Fosses Saint-Jacques, in the 5th Paris district. Like in the series, the restaurant is painted in dark red color and is full of people.
The “two friends” we met are actually Johann and Valerio from Sicely. “At the beginning when we bought the place 25 years ago, it was an old butcher’s shop from the 20s’’ says Valerio.
Their trip with “Emily in Paris” started in 2019, when the production company contacted them and made them an offer. The shooting started in August 2019 and lasted 2 months. After that, the restaurant’s popularity has of course increased. Many tourists, inspired by Emily in Paris, are visiting the restaurant, but there are also a lot of regular customers and that is why, as Valerio told us, he hasn’t made any menu changes.
The space is smaller than you may think by seeing it on Netflix, but tasteful and cozy. Valerio didn’t make it clear, but some restaurant’s shooting scenes had to be made elsewhere, as the interior is completely unlike Terra Nera. The most important change is that the open kitchen and the impressive bar we saw in “Emily in Paris”, don’t exist. The restaurant’s interior has also red shades and with the wooden details it creates a cozy atmosphere.
As far as the tasting experience at Terra Nera is concerned, that includes pasta, risotto, pizza, and some meat dishes, we were not disappointed. We loved the sea pasta dish. In addition, the restaurant’s menu is enriched with some specialties that are “printed” on the Parisian style blackboard for the customers to choose. There is also a bar where all the entrée dishes are self-serve and the desserts as well. We felt like being “in the movie” somewhat, the prices weren’t too unreasonable for Paris (30€/person for a main dish with wine), everything was very tasty and the service polite.
